YOUCAN is an acronym that stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and
Advocate Non-Violence. YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for the past
5 x$ O3 {1 `) s0 s" \nine years and our mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to
1 L7 d* m, Q5 `8 Speacefully resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities.
6 _' H! G$ b$ x% k1 k9 @The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada and Government of Albertafunded

" |" `$ o" n# i8 G7 Mproject that will bring at-risk youth together into a unique 15 -week groupbased
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”.
# w6 Q: |& u" e+ P( CThe goal of the VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining
( u7 Q" Y+ F5 R7 P) G: `/ h4 Z* Y9 Qthe skills necessary to bring success into their lives. Verto program will expose
) `' D4 J/ k$ k/ x0 M% P2 ~  M: s# sparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment development,
  F' f( ]. f+ u0 ]# I& K( V# hpersonal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution, and exposure courses.
Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and wellness, volunteerism,
1 h/ F( }& ~, k; Jand leadership courses. Verto youth will be provided with a six-month employment
7 c  w, _& S' V  ~; B+ [$ ]follow-up once the program is completed.

Verto project will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the
YOUCAN office, located at 11124-130 St. (Westmount Jr. High School) in Edmonton, Alberta.
