. E, v" @4 f0 F1 }Action for Healthy Communities Society of Edmonton (AHC) is a charitable organization working with Edmontonians to build healthy and vibrant communities. We do this by supporting and empowering individuals and groups to develop skills, abilities, and projects that improve their community’s health and well-being. Currently we are seeking three Volunteer Event Coordinators with a stipend ($300.00 for each) to organize the following events:+ K9 K7 y1 y3 Z, h  M$ y2 I

Aboriginal Day Celebration (Saturday, June 7, 2014, 2:00 – 5:00 pm) --( Needed Urgently)5 g# |1 j- f' P+ R% f

3 l) }4 M* i& o6 h0 o& i6 K8 U$ oAfrican Cultural Festival (Saturday, July 19, 2014, 2:00 – 5:00 pm)6 @2 G* e: S% Q, w+ V/ J
Corn Festival (Latin American culture) (Saturday, September 20, 2014, 2:00 – 5:00 pm)

Reporting to the Program Coordinator of the Community Capacities program, the Event Coordinators will provide leadership in all aspects of the event initiative and management including planning, coordinating, promoting,executing, evaluating and reporting. This individualswill be the principal conduits in which all event planning communications are handled. This is an excellent opportunity to help develop your leadership skills and build new networks.. y" ~% F$ U+ M1 C" w9 f0 ?

Duties and Responsibilities
( ~3 P- i) U/ _5 r1 vThe events coordinator will:
) t1 R. B7 c& m( i( Z3 Z* }- G•        Work with the Program Coordinator of Community Capacities as a team to create the event plan.9 }% V$ F$ ]+ P. R1 k  W7 l
•        Implement the event plan from beginning to completion.
+ }+ L0 y9 G8 L' I- @: P•        Contact, outreach, and build up networks withAboriginal/African/Latin Americancommunitiesand other city-wide communities to organize and promote the event. 4 ^  `% t' A1 d% d
•        Develop marketing materials, news releases, invitation letters, and social media marketing for the event.
  w/ D+ N; [  t2 p( M* @6 ]$ p: [•        Coordinate online and offline promotion of the event." @  e& L7 t; d
•        Identify the speakers and the artists for the event; serve as liaison with speakers and artists on event-relate matters.
+ G) D' X! h7 s) P•        Develop the program for the event.1 ~0 f' u: Z( i7 U$ c
•        Invite special guests from governments and organizations, community leaders and members to participate in the event.4 o& ^2 D( F7 h2 u+ U# c9 e
•        Invite journalists to report on the event.
2 Y9 r5 \  t/ j# E- [, \# O•        Recruit and train volunteers to work for the event.
. l  D1 D1 F. x% g•        Manage the logistics for the event, including arranging food service,decorating the room,preparing the registration forms, evaluation forms, and photo release forms,collecting the registration and evaluation forms before the event ends, and overseeing the whole event.

* _8 \: t5 z& R! @6 h' Y•        Write the report after the event.! Q+ _4 @( m; c) Z
Qualifications:
1 \# s$ d7 Z) N7 `•        Strong leadership skills; ability to mentor and coach.! z  s6 G7 n/ V# R
•        Familiar with Aboriginal/African/Latin American cultureand have connections and networks with, and resources of, Aboriginal/African/Latin American communities preferred.
. C6 s! O( G, n$ t1 p•        Event planning/management or project management experience, in particular, experience in coordinating community-based cultural events preferred.
, q, _$ Y" i# l& @•        Strong organizational, time management, and problem solving skills;attention to detail is imperative.7 I6 x2 ~6 Q0 F* x) N5 @9 l
•        Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills and intercultural communication skills.
1 p/ O4 ^1 w8 T% \•        Strong computer skills a must; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher is required.
  p5 h: q' w- \" q; j- @•        Excellent social media skills to use Facebook, Twitter, Blog, YouTube, etc.3 E" g- H( h7 \+ Y" @# m
•        Ability to balance multiple priorities within tight deadlines.( C% k' `" j! U
•        Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse team.0 \- m0 M8 E& K  ^
•        Prompt, flexible, reliable and responsible with ability to exercise sound judgment.% x& V: z6 ^) B, n$ P4 T0 J
•        Bachelor’s degree preferred.  S5 N0 F3 k6 Z, j
•        Bilingualism an asset.: I/ \. U4 u* r- `

! W# L% v5 e- e" ^0 QTime schedules are flexible but weekly meetings either by phone or presenting in person are required.

• Gain skills in: leadership, cross-cultural and interpersonal communication, and organization.

• Work in an environment that supports personal and professional growth.
