Heavy rain weather forecast

I was listening to the radio yesterday evening. The 70 mm heavy rain forecast made me a little bit nervous. I remembered the drainage in front of my house had not been working very well. Rain water from the roof would stay there, rise and not flow away from the footage of the house. So after supper I went out to dig a little canal away from the house in the hope that the canal would lead water away. I was satisfied to look at the canal after it was done. " It must work." I said to myself. I came home after work this evening and there was no rain water in front of my house. But I was not very happy because the rain was not as heavy as the weather forecast said so I could not have a chance to see how the canal worked.
