It is commonly accepted that construction control systems should correspond to the context within which the construction activities are operating, i.e. the production situation. However, rarely is this context indicated or made explicit, for example, the validity range of a particular production control method. Thus, most of the practitioners in construction management use the traditional project control tools, such as CPM, to plan and control construction without considering the context. This presentation aims at giving auditors a general idea on how the production context could be systematically taken into account in the selection of construction control method. The speaker will discuss the range of validity of the major construction control approaches, including CPM, Line-of-Balance, Last Planning System and Critical Chain. Then, a typology of construction control situation is introduced, together with suggestion for construction control method in each case. |
