To enlarge my vocabulary, I spent two years memorizing GRE vacabulary (Hong Bao Shu). I did that in the hope that I would not need to worry about vocabulary once I emigrated to Canada. After I came to Canada, it proved to be a right choice. With good vocabulary, you would discover that English is also a very fasinating language, just like Chinese.

) v" U% r! a! H0 h: e3 W& q1. For new words, don't try to remember every meaning of the word. You just need to get the basic meaning. When you learn more, read more, you would gradually get to know other meanings.
- N3 b* @. D7 c" U$ E2. Make a feasible learning plan. Don't try to bite more than you can chew. Ten words a day would be enough for beginners. For the ten words, you should memorize them 1st day, 3rd day, 5th day, 10th day, 15th day, 30th day, 60th day, 90th day, 120th day, 180th day, 360th day. Yes, a word takes more than ten times to memorize. But once the hard work is done, it would be really really hard to forget.
/ ~3 S8 N! \4 Q* ]6 Y+ e4 P3. Don't use Chinese-English dictionary. That's a major hurdle you have to get over. Use English dictionary only. It takes some time to get used to it. But it pays./ ?5 S$ H% L6 B1 ]' {! T8 B& e* y8 a5 S
