Position Title: Summer IT/S Assistant - STEP Program
, N) @+ X) {1 r- k' _Job Description/Duties: THIS IS AN HOURLY PAID POSITION WITH A 500 HOUR PROBATION PERIOD, STARTING JUNE 6 THROUGH JULY 29, 2005. This position is funded in part through the SUMMER TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (STEP). This program is specifically designed to assist un-employed Albertans gain experience through summer work opportunities. To be eligible for consideration you must be an Alberta resident and currently un-employed. POSITION: SUMMER IT/S ASSISTANT (Competition# 4513-1J). DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES & SERVICES DIVISION: FINANCE SERVICES. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Microcomputer Support Manager, you will work within the Microcomputer Support team in helping to provide support on PC and Macintosh software and hardware. This support may take the form of moving computers and equipment, assisting with physical inventory, and installing and supporting software and hardware. There will be first-line computer support, under the guidance of a technician, as well as some basic network support, from the client perspective, on both CAT5E and wireless. Under the guidance of the Microcomputer Support team, there will also be project-driven work which may involve wireless hardware installation, VOIP testing, and working with networking monitor applications. Other projects may include PDA deployment and computer hardware installations. Some of the software currently supported: MS XP Pro/ MS Office XP/ Internet Explorer/ Adobe software/ Norton Anti-Virus. The hardware base: IBM and Toshiba laptops/ Compaq and HP PCs/ Apple G4 & G5’s/ Nortel and Cisco networking equipment/ OS X/ TCP/IP, SNMP, IEEE802.11a/b/c. The Banff Centre is spread over many buildings on the side of a mountain and therefore may involve a fair amount of walking during the course of the day. QUALIFICATIONS: Our ideal summer student will, above all, have an eagerness to learn and the ability to work well within a team construct. Application software knowledge is essential and good communication skills are also a requirement. Networking knowledge in STP and Cisco IOS would be a definite asset. This is a CUPE local 4318 support staff position. The salary is currently under review for this position. Staff housing is available on an availability basis only.
