Peace River Pulp Division is a progressive company that offers excellent opportunities for Engineering Students to gain knowledge and experience in the Pulp and Paper industry. This modern facility is located 500 km northwest of Edmonton, AB near the town of Peace River. An opportunity exists for a Civil Engineering Technology Student for a four month term from May 2, 2005 until August 31, 2005. Reporting to the Advisor, Capital Projects and Engineering, the student will be involved in all areas of the mill developing long term programs for maintaining building infrastructures, performing inspections of the same, developing budgets for future work, preventative maintenance development and special projects as required. The student will be involved in coordination and supervision responsibilities handling local contractors in the repair and upkeep of roads, roofs, concrete structures, buildings etc. This position will be mostly self directed and provides support to the area and project engineers on occasional capital projects. Equipment within the mill includes piping systems, power and recovery boilers, continuous digester, bleach plant, chemical preparation, pulp machine, woodroom, conveyors and other associated equipment. Familiarity with word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and Project Scheduling Software will be considered an asset. Previous experience on computerized maintenance management systems is also an advantage. The ability to work well with others in a team environment is essential. Construction or industrial experience would be an asset.
