T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
, K7 b6 Q1 M. z( z# C' hAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 2 `5 X+ Q& T) c) k- F! F) m6 T
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on $ J+ K* f! c! w4 R  [- k! ~
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
# f( J' c, c* S8 U  E7 m  aand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.6 t: {" a$ K% [% M3 J  @7 T& k4 q2 t

, D+ d' c  g0 GWhat will take place in the sessions?9 R; j- C9 s( ~" H' e
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:
* C$ n# v' U4 O" l' @6 J# ~) l Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
" y+ M! C1 F7 t Learn how to access community services and programs) S$ R1 g% }" k+ Z1 ~
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills& B0 ]5 {$ p' a
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:8 J8 H& t4 v6 y! g
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.3 C6 y- Z- |1 y' R5 H
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
9 B- J' Q' ~, {& M# l                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily9 u3 ^3 r2 J- ]: I

$ h( K" i' u$ Q2 a& X9 x1 ?Who can participate?, C3 i9 i* C# x" s& N1 B6 y
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
) C0 r8 U5 a8 U5 n" M+ ^0 m. O; u. I! a( @' u* q, T5 m
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?% n6 i- t+ j6 ]( e0 G; Y, y
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
8 n# |! k8 ?# M# u/ D
& R4 ^( l, T6 E3 z* Q% h* \2 l7 S1 f6 [5 W" Z! t* u! n
Volunteer’s Duties:. }1 p9 h" }8 `% g: W2 N

6 v9 L+ }' v+ R0 U) f1 c Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
# A7 X* ?5 _3 z8 K( }& L# ^# P Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
* Y6 X7 \: y: U- c. R1 y, R Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities, y. E" ~& F2 E. ~: x2 D" w# ?
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions) e: Z0 |% K- Q
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic2 @: Y4 M1 n. |6 t
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips0 w  J* t8 N5 a
 Assist in program planning$ B5 f% w2 M- b- k- u
 Be a role model* x$ H- ]" N9 A! w

: c% t: w4 b, s. t* H) ^Volunteer Commitment:0 |8 O8 D5 H* K

7 m, v. i' t. S' Y, v3 y4 H: [$ X On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
: c, g2 S" J$ `( }6 k4 e6 R One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
% d* m0 e9 }3 C9 x5 I" c1 t
9 p: e3 h" j! M$ {/ aAttitude/Skills Requirements:* X' P& R( q0 V3 G

9 A3 z; I# O7 V6 I Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
: o5 W  N3 L2 W/ h0 C  K Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
- r6 a( e) ~% ` A team player
7 E. _) b9 P5 X: B; O* [5 l7 ^3 b Able to work independently with minimum supervision2 K4 c4 J# I2 Z, t3 L; p
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families5 g% w0 H+ K$ O2 Y9 w4 B, W1 u& w
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
, i# o' Z( K! C* W0 ^6 k4 @
