4 W" ]+ C5 I6 lJob Description/Duties: The Health Sciences Centre is the largest tertiary care hospital in Manitoba. The 860 bed facility comprises the General Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Rehabilitation and Respiratory Hospital, and Psychealth Centre. The Health Sciences Centre is affiliated with the University of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba and is a key facility for medical education and research. The HSC is part of a city-wide regional health authority. This position provides assistance to Electronic Technologists, and will familiarize students currently enrolled in a recognized Electronic Technologist program (Biomedical Engineering Diploma Program preferred) to medical equipment, the hospital environment, and the procedures and activities of a Clinical Engineering Department. Under the direct supervision of the Lab Manager, the incumbent may be responsible for the performance assurance (performance verification, preventive maintenance, and safety testing) of a variety of medical equipment and accessories, as well as other technical and support work that enables the Clinical Engineering Department to carry out its mandate. The incumbent may also carry out specifically assigned tasks relating to simple equipment repair and incoming inspection, i.e. assembly of (as required) and performance verification of equipment including the documentation of results. Applicants must have a complete high school education, and be currently enrolled in an Electronics Technologist or Biomedical Engineering Technology program at a recognized technical college. A good mechanical aptitude and experience working with simple electronic test and repair equipment (DVM, soldering/desoldering iron and hand tools) complimented with good interpersonal and communication skills, a willingness to learn, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, personal organizational skills, and a customer service focus are also requirements of the position. Proficiency in PC use and office productivity software applications such as word processor, spreadsheet and database is preferred.
