) {+ X2 _' ], l7 N/ d. yThe Advocacy Program will be based on a client-centered self- empowerment model in which advocacy is provided to help clients achieve their goals. The advocate will empower marginalized clients to speak for themselves and will facilitate communication with the systems clients interact with.

0 D8 W: g# N, ]/ wIf necessary, the advocate will speak on behalf of clients with their consent. The advocate will work in partnership with people, supporting them as they make decisions about their own lives and will encourage and support relationships with natural support systems. This may include assisting clients in the navigation of bureaucratic paperwork and procedures, and accompanying clients to crucial appointments.

3 K7 \" _) \( t2 vQualifications: Minimum Bachelor level degree, preferably a degree in Social Work or related field; understanding of mental health, poverty, homelessness & addictions; well developed skills in communication, conflict resolution and creative problem-solving; excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.

PLUS: good documentation skills/organizational ability; experience supervising volunteers/working within a large team; personal vehicle, insurance, valid class 5 driver's license required; willingness to submit to a& ability to pass an Employment Security Check - Enhanced Security Clearance by Correctional Services Canada; Assent to The Mustard Seed's Statement of Faith.

% O3 v* P" P2 F# _Key Responsibilities: Forge and create on-going contacts with landlords, the justice system, Children's Services, social services and all other supportive agencies. This includes maintaining existing partnerships as well as developing new partnerships.

In addition: facilitate communication between primary stakeholders/clients; assist clients to identify current strengths/areas for growth; actively and effectively advocate to ensure that the clients' needs are being met & ensure that they are aware of their rights; assist in creating a safe, secure, and supportive environment which respects the clients and their right to participate in all decisions affecting them; develop opportunities for volunteer involvement in conjunction with the Manager of Volunteer Development.
