AS it is well known that the 'wise men' in the Bible came 'from the East,' and as Mr. Touch-and-go Bullet-head came from the East,  Mr. Bullet-head was therefore a wise man; and if further proof of the matter is  needed, here we have it- Mr. B. was an editor. A bad temper was his only weakness; he did not consider  his inablility ever to changer his mind a weakness. It was, his firmly believed, his strong point.% G7 M" m, X. `) u  V; l
   I have shown that Touch-and-go Bullet-head was a wise man; and the only occasion on which he was not wise was when, leaving the proper home for all wise men, the East, he moved to the city of Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis, or some place of a similar title, out West.

mind finally to settle in that town, it was under the impression that

have the field all to himself. I feel confident he never would have2 G" I+ ]0 _, Q6 _- l9 H5 L
dreamed of taking up his residence in Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis
4 V! `) o* N" X2 ghad he been aware that, in Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis, there lived9 B# G' P5 E9 C* v
a gentleman named John Smith (if I rightly remember), who for many. G- V) U9 k5 z# H' t* k, D
years had there quietly grown fat in editing and publishing the6 z9 x$ H: ?6 x! T* T& A
'Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis Daily News.' It was solely, therefore, on* g  k" J7 x' b- p: ?% ]
account of having been misinformed, that Mr. Bullet-head found% E( {$ l# g- Y6 ]' {- B
himself in Alex-suppose we call it Nopolis, 'for short' -- but, as he
  g( \6 ^! _% C' Wdid find himself there, he determined to keep up his character for# a% G# r$ q. B% p
obst -- for firmness, and remain. So remain he did; and he did more;( p; X8 J3 }$ n- `' K' _; N
he unpacked his press, type, etc., etc., rented an office exactly
+ w3 f. w; M% q5 ?opposite to that of the 'Daily News,' and, on the third morning after1 ?5 q; U, D% R( O2 z* [
his arrival, issued the first number of 'The Alexan' -- that is to- U- M! B0 f: U+ E7 r" Y
say, of 'The Nopolis Tea-Pot' -- as nearly as I can recollect, this
& V8 p. G. A+ F5 g* Mwas the name of the new paper.
0 D0 I+ L' k3 ?) ^1 B* h  m. ~# F8 v0 @2 t
The leading article, I must admit, was brilliant -- not to say
: g. z7 b1 {1 I$ C$ @1 [5 e  osevere. It was especially bitter about things in general -- and as
4 X9 m% D6 N4 U2 K/ R9 Ffor the editor of 'The Daily News,' he was torn all to pieces in' R; c# C2 n( m- w( x8 |3 E8 R; ^8 h5 x
particular. Some of Bullethead's remarks were really so fiery that I
( R$ t8 e, B' U/ k2 g. Whave always, since that time, been forced to look upon John Smith,
) D& ^  N  q2 dwho is still alive, in the light of a salamander. I cannot pretend to8 [+ q6 }. ~% ^. `0 H9 k
give all the 'Tea-Pot's' paragraphs verbatim, but one of them runs

excited individuals gathered at the corners of the streets. Every one9 Y$ K8 z. z$ J
awaited, with heartfelt anxiety, the reply of the dignified Smith.2 |1 D& G- I5 P% C* Z
Next morning it appeared as follows:

'We quote from "The Tea-Pot" of yesterday the subjoined paragraph:

# b2 Y4 E% D5 z# ~; Y) s( M0 Qhis integrity as one might have imagined. It was the sneer at his
8 D4 C# b, v3 U/ |2 b- Rstyle that drove him to desperation. What! -- he Touch-and-go
/ N  c' T8 S9 DBullet-head! -- not able to write a word without an O in it! He would

him see how much he was mistaken, the puppy! He, Touch-and-go

he, Bullet-head, could indite, if it so pleased him, a whole
/ `. T; R- ]* n) N; u3 Vparagraph -- aye! a whole article -- in which that contemptible vowel
& u8 _4 B: O, c( G7 Bshould not once -- not even once -- make its appearance. But no; --
- `" o0 i$ _2 L1 r. uthat would be yielding a point to the said John Smith. He," O' f, V  k& n9 }" w# A
Bullet-head, would make no alteration in his style, to suit the
, K% |0 ^. Y, x. P  kcaprices of any Mr. Smith in Christendom. Perish so vile a thought!

Tired out, of course, by so wonderful a piece of work, the great7 W  i9 ?+ A) N) j) S) @* t; p
Touch-and-go could do nothing more than that night.  He handed his article to9 @1 j* ~6 P' K" A
the printer's boy who was waiting, and walked slowly home to bed.

* x# D) d& q9 s. R% `The printer's boy to whom the article was trusted ran upstairs  in a great hurry and prepared to set the article in print.

In the first place, of course, -- as the opening word was 'So,' -- he

! \+ ~9 _- p  Z# l2 e, q% z# `describe his feelings of horror when his fingers came out of it without a
, Z2 {0 l, j) P- fletter in them? who can tell of his astonishment and anger when he realized that the little box was completely empty?  Not a single
5 S. c& N: t( z6 o) Zlittle-o was in the little-o box; and, glancing fearfully at the6 i) X% y- q5 \" }+ W& D1 }
capital-O box, he found that in exactly the same state--empty.  He ran to his master.

ok, from 7楼到9楼中的chief是谁?和Mr bullet- head是一个人吗?还是不同的人?

populace was, that some diabolical treason lay concealed in the

gentleman was nowhere to be found. He had vanished, no one could tell0 K. ], v# ~6 i
how; and not even the ghost of him has ever been seen since.6 E: {5 |# V; o
