  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
- n5 R3 n, |' `provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  
4 w' Q6 b  [4 ?0 K8 Y1 c8 U  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
+ L- h9 y- Q/ r% A  \The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
- P. J& A/ e$ z" G! ?9 u- \newcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
+ z3 x4 Z8 N# A6 A2 Oneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
( ~# }- ^( I2 vnewcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
! B2 I( v, L- J$ {" n' o8 ~2 v6 h/ ~assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
5 b' p; b- K# O0 G! o+ E+ N2 ^; m& fcentered delivery model.

5 L/ f+ q) B. G) ?# Z Key Accountability
6 \9 s+ N/ G) U# Q* K, a" ~. P  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
/ R* g* x- S( B2 s  B& s9 C  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
4 [, H  w' ?& G7 r+ X6 j! ?' J$ |  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
0 ^0 o' I. \) C  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
7 m$ a: D- S. w$ X7 x8 b  Z( t" w5 B  hnewcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
! `& z  a2 ~! W1 icase plan support for clients who have complex needs.
" n- |5 Z" ~4 ?+ I( H  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
' B! J- \  M2 v& K# qservice.

Qualification

2 [8 t, L$ u2 v6 ~9 r2 O8 A+ f  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
experience in Social Work or related human service fields.
0 {, L* M( n6 ~6 W  b* m& B  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
1 {$ c4 Z$ Q2 a$ P: X' G0 rsupport needs
% S$ l7 f  q" Y: W/ n  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
5 K9 i. D/ R7 g) O. Y  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
' X5 Q+ T0 P, s9 m1 D; p$ K. P  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
insurance coverage for work

% W/ P' b! O1 c) ^% RExperience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field

$ L1 L% P) M8 F% u' ^+ e  d, c$ sSpecial Requirements
& \' \) o8 T% r7 i. C  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to
newcomers
5 y4 b! _$ _' Q% a# ]: y9 B7 l  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Strong English communications skills
