T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip $ f' x" a0 Z. R6 o2 \( F
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
9 z, n2 R) @" j5 Q" [4 M7 Kopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ; U" D- C" ]# r2 U* U5 [. d
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
, t) `1 q  [6 m2 e+ _! p* @! [and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.2 y6 c4 G+ e( x6 u, o2 V

& [" C$ |4 Y  \+ E' e' RWhat will take place in the sessions?/ F( l- O7 v  Q5 m
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:
: J1 u- M# Q4 n% f- ?2 w: D; v Explore personal interests in arts and recreation' P2 M+ i/ g; m' o+ l
 Learn how to access community services and programs
' K" g$ @/ M% k. u0 o- g Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills0 j+ @% u" s, U' }4 I, z' G
 Identify personal leadership strengths …: _7 S  }- P, K7 u$ p% w

) }0 i9 A2 p3 J( mProgram Schedule:
# w# B: r; b# Z; o( ?  r7 nRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
2 Y# _4 d2 G: l& D  B- ASummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily2 g" B4 E  ]+ x% b& E
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
& r/ K9 |( W  L, w( t! l9 X4 H' ^, {6 V' h) }
Who can participate?
: o/ N8 c( v5 Y) ~) o" G. ~, g/ aAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.3 D: A( B7 d$ E  S9 ]
. I9 g9 Y7 ~* w
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
0 T/ V. `5 s, W2 i2 v1 f$ l* oIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.0 E2 _. ~! n$ a, m9 f

Volunteer’s Duties:
3 N0 j$ a$ M0 }( ?. L4 P
$ t: l7 V' V; R7 |. ^ Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
0 f5 `. ]& J% R! o4 n2 m7 X) v+ s Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
  ^7 Q* B0 S+ m2 N2 z Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities7 ^" i. x' d) p  u4 N
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions! o5 q7 D$ F1 H) f5 p" _
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
( R& M9 x$ b. p1 Z8 c" d1 i) T Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
) N1 E( f" M! M Assist in program planning
# _9 h7 W& @$ g5 A Be a role model: N. g( V- N9 \6 q# f' J

  j, I; w/ P& y1 x$ ~: |. v$ X3 OVolunteer Commitment:. L/ R: T: f, B4 E" a

' n! a' I* s& z# O" R6 w On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)) P# i+ i) ~1 @3 {; ?& \! [
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

" J( z' U$ i' D4 z Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator$ q9 \; @: C& w- ?0 @# {0 ^$ e# f
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program0 N0 N! B0 Y' ?3 G& Z8 e
 A team player
7 y% J; s$ e' U4 R6 j2 ~; q8 r Able to work independently with minimum supervision  y+ k" W" X( \
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families, G: F7 D0 l+ D* B' a
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
! P7 \; [  I* m, b5 u" x$ M5 e9 m
