Hello, Edmonton!                                 $ h/ m6 z! _" ]6 M7 A5 M: Q

& u  G6 p( t& a7 e0 N; R3 _ At midnight on May 4, 2003, my husband and I got off a plane at Edmonton International Airport. When we walked out the gate of the airport, snowflakes falling gracefully from the night sky broke into our sight and blew onto our faces lightly! That was a big surprise! It seemed as if our left feet were stepping in the strange country’s winter, but our right feet were still staying in the summer of China, where the plane took off. The twelve hour flight changed not only the day and night but also my favorite season by stealth! But after all, it had tugged us to rush out of the panic of SARS. We could eventually take off the respirators and breathe the fresh air freely. “Hello, Edmonton! We are coming!”. j! V0 p# I+ t1 ^; x/ p0 s
8 u, p& `, L; r8 l
Our friends, who had been living here for eight years, drove us to the apartment they had rent for us in advance. On the way, we curiously looked at the city through the window. In mild light of street-lamps, Edmonton was peaceful and quiet like a sleeping child. When I realized our home city was in the afternoon sunshine at the moment, and thereafter it was really far away from us, Edmonton in my eyes suddenly got wet and blurry.: K2 R6 J/ W- A& C: x% P
# c# M4 H6 V" E) Z2 }* Y7 q  R/ v
I spent my first sleepless night in this city. The sunrise at 5:00am gave me a second surprise. The strong and clear sunshine hurt my eyes. Snow melted very soon, and lots of green grass appeared on the ground. It took just one night that all the trees turned green and all the flowers bloomed, but this was the shortest spring I had ever seen. After a few days, summer came to the city. T-shirts came back onto our bodies instead of coats again. The air was so clean and fresh here that sometimes I almost forgot where I came from. When we walked on the street, almost every Canadian we met smiled at us and greeted us. Oh, what a nice city! (But it does not happen to every person we meet any more, and sometimes people even do not say any words back to our greetings:()  4 R- X( _3 \- j: Z) ^! v+ B# e

% ^4 |0 \; l5 HOur home city is a forest built of cement and steel bars, whereas Edmonton is built of wood. The most beautiful views in Edmonton are lots of lovely wooden houses with different styles and colors set into the green background over the city. Their windows reflect the pure blue sky and loose white clouds. Around the houses, long haired or short haired dogs with a variety of ears, eyes, noses, mouth and colors look at you gently. Sometimes they even walk up to you and lick your feet! Innumerable parks stretch along the river across the city. In parks, fat birds sing and fly among trees or loiter on lakes, stream and grass. They are not afraid of you at all. They always observe you with their naive eyes and want to know if you have something to eat. If they think you do, they will come to you and stretch their necks to look into your hands. Naughty squirrels like playing hide-and-seek with you. They suddenly show up around you and then disappear at once. If you want to take pictures of them, you have to be patient and approach them quietly.
0 V$ W0 y4 _( s$ S- H5 Q( M7 Z/ y$ |7 g& c: q8 ^& L
Edmontonians enjoy barbecues in the parks. Just two weeks after we landed here, our friends invited us to go barbecuing. It was a pleasant and impressive experience for us because we never barbecued outside in China.  We sat in the beautiful scenery, tasted delicious barbecued food made by ourselves, talked with friends, looked at birds, animals and people with different skin colors, different dress but the same sunny smile…

- `6 S) q& @& ^2 W. x, _0 JThis is a land covered with trees, grass and stream; this is a land under the pure blue sky and roaming white clouds; this is a land with birds and animals growing freely on it; this is a land that has small population but you can see a lot of different cultures from different countries…and then, this is a land we have loved since we first stepped on it!) \1 ?/ ?# @( I( z3 `

' d9 D: h1 `6 t6 ^! RSometimes I think learning English is not as difficult as  writing Chinese poems for us. All my teachers say that all languages have the same empathy. Good writers in Chinese will also be able to be good writers in English. Languages will be just Languages unless we speak them whole heartedly.

Anyway, a lot of people think Chinese is more complex than English. We have already got the more difficult one,  haven't we?

否则J-CORE怎么会说“Too simple, sometimes naive”呢?
